Initial Appointment
All of our patients are asked to have a consultation visit. This appointment will consist of a thorough examination, review of x-rays, and an explanation of your diagnosis and treatment options.
This time allows the doctor to properly evaluate your condition, discuss your past medical history and present medication, review any studies or x-rays and discuss any other medical conditions which could impact your treatment. It is an important time during which you can discuss with your doctor any concerns you have about your treatment recommendations.
In addition to the clinical examination performed at the consultation visit, a screening x-ray will often be requested. This is called a panoramic radiograph. This is a specialized x-ray which shows the entire upper and lower jaw structures, including the jaw joints and air sinuses.
We use cutting edge scanning technology that allows us to take 3-D x-rays taken in our office for your convenience. This is a unique feature our office is able to offer patients.
This x-ray will also give the doctor information regarding nerve tracts in your lower jaw and the position of teeth, impacted teeth, and potential areas of pathology in the jaw regions. It is important that these x-rays are current.
Surgical consent forms will also be outlined at the consultation visit. This gives the doctor and patient an opportunity to discuss the procedures in detail and review any potential risks and complications as they pertain to each specific individual.
Once all the clinical and x-ray results are reviewed, a treatment plan designed specifically for you will be discussed in detail. Most surgeries can safely and effectively be performed in the office setting. Although, patients typically choose intravenous anesthesia, local anesthesia is also available for certain cases.
Our financial coordinator will discuss insurance benefits and any patient coinsurance amount. All financial responsibilities will be discussed before any treatment is rendered.
Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:
- Referral slip
- Panoramic x-ray
- Dental and medical insurance cards
- A list of medications you are currently taking
- A completed health care questionnaire

In an effort to devote our full attention to patient treatment, we ask that patients make childcare arrangements prior to all appointments. If you are unable to find child care, our patient care coordinator can reschedule your appointment to a more convenient time.
